Ben Uri awarded for the second time running a Sandford National Award for Education 2012

We are thrilled to announce that Ben Uri Gallery, The London Jewish Museum of Art, has received the Sandford Award for Education for the second time! It is a great honour to receive The Sandford Award for Education, which is run by the Heritage Education Trust.
The HET encourages, recognises and promotes quality education within historic
environments and judges for The Sandford Award include ‘OFSTED Inspectors, former
head teachers, education consultants and heritage property based education
officers’.
Ben Uri is dedicated to providing inclusive learning programmes for schools,
families and the wider community to discover the powerful works in the Ben Uri
Collection and learn about these distinguished artists and hear their extraordinary
stories.
The lead Sandford judge reported:
“The Ben Uri Gallery’s mission is to be known as The Art Museum for Everyone and it
certainly delivers this for the wide range of school children who visit from local
schools and who visit its on line resources.
The children who come in person have a fabulous opportunity to hang their work in a
real gallery, however small.
Those who visit on line have a resource which is responsive to their needs and even
allows a teacher to set a specific piece of homework linked to the topic – a
far-sighted initiative by Ben Uri Gallery”
“This is a service which cries out for a permanent education suite in the same
building as the collection. As mentioned in the 2006 report, a permanent home would
enable the service to expand its provision and its teaching methods”.
Learning Programmes Manager, Alix Smith said:
“Our learning programmes are accessible to 25,000 schools across the UK and we are
really thrilled that Ben Uri has received this recognition and award for the second
time running.
Despite still being located in a physically small space, we continue to create and
deliver far reaching and innovative learning programmes that celebrate the arts and
the valuable role they play in learning. Through the amazing Ben Uri collection we
hope to inspire the next generation of artists and the recognition from The Sandford
Award demonstrates that we are working hard to achieve that!"
