CALL FOR ENTRIES
The IJAYA has gone from strength to strength and we are confident that this year's awards will surpass the previous
record of over 500 submissions from 18 countries across the world. This competition has become the most prestigious
international event of its kind. Standards are high and all of the artists selected for the final exhibition will
receive certification and the public acknowledgment of their work that they deserve. The awards allow Ben Uri to
continue its long-standing commitment to supporting artists, fostering their creative talents and providing opportunities
for international public recognition.
All short-listed finalists will be showcased in an exhibition at the Ben Uri Museum that will run from 9–29 May 2012.
The Competition
The competition has three categories
- Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture
- Photographs and Prints
- New Media and Performance Art
For two age groups: 18–23 and 24 and over.
40 works will be selected for the final shortlist, entitling each of the selected artists to exhibit at the Museum in London
from 9–29 May 2012. Category winners and the Ben Uri 2012 International Jewish Artist of the Year will be announced at the
awards reception on 22 May 2012. All of the artists who enter the awards will also be invited to join the celebration with
the competition’s international panel of judges and other dignitaries from the London art world, including collectors, critics
and gallery owners.
Judging and Selection
The panel of judges will be chaired by Katy Barron, Contemporary Curator at Ben Uri. The panel will include Paris-based artist
Ra’anan Levy, London-based artist and writer Sarah Lightman and gallery owner Andrew Kalman of Crane Kalman Gallery in London’s
Knightsbridge.
Awards:£7,500
Each category winner of each age group (six category winners) will receive £750 of Cass Art Vouchers. The runner up to the
International Jewish Artist of the Year will be an age group overall winner and will be awarded a further £1000. The overall
International Jewish Artist of the Year will be awarded a further £2000. The judges may at their discretion make a further award
recognising the most promising young artist of the competition.
